Greetings Team:
Thank you all for your patience as we continue to prepare for the remote transition, and the ongoing communications in place. As we work through this, please make sure you are all making the time to take care of yourselves and loved ones too. We will continue putting our best forward to support students as they return and shift their mindset to take online classes, on top of living arrangements, plus more! We know many of them count on your professional advice, guidance and support. We appreciate the knowledge sharing with the collective team as you become aware of resources not just for students but for each other. As a reminder the D2L CALS Agvisors playspace and this listserv may be used to share information. The discussion section of the D2L page is active as well. The team efforts by all have been invaluable.
Updates:
1. Attached and on the D2L page are working from home guides – thanks Amanda for sharing! The full “UA Online” email thread is left since the message from UA Online Director Carmin Chan is informative with pleasant reminders.
2. The CALS Connect newsletter sent today at 6pm included additional resources for students including library equipment loans https://new.library.arizona.edu/tech/borrow, student zoom tutorials (multiple links on newsletter), CALS advising support and how to connect with all of us (checking Trellis calendars is the main referral).
3. CAS general advisors will have additional virtual drops-ins via zoom, phone appointments and continued access to the advising at cals.arizona.edu<mailto:advising at cals.arizona.edu> email for questions, petition requests, degree audit submissions, etc. The main CAS advising line 520-621-3616 will continue to be answered during business hours and messages left post business hours will be checked as soon as possible.
4. The D2L playspace also has the discussion functionality for all of us to use as well. Zoom guides and recordings for advising drop-ins and appointments are also uploaded on the page – thanks again Serena! Additional Advisor Online resources are there too.
5. We will keep the 3/24 Agvisors meeting but via zoom. A meeting link will be sent this week. It’s likely another zoom meeting will be scheduled this week of 3/16 for a team check in (one hour or less timeframe) – zoom link with invite will be sent.
6. Per CALS leadership Associate Dean Mike Staten we will all work virtually through April 6. If you are in need of a Chromebook please let me know a time you can pick one up from Forbes 203 or to schedule arrangements to get it this Monday (preferred) or Tuesday morning. Appreciate it!
7. On ALVSCE bulletin Dean Burgess shared that all AZ schools are closed per Governor Ducey from 3/16-3/27. The opportunity to work remotely is in place gratefully, not under ideal circumstances, but we will continue with a growth mindset on how to make it work with continued quality deliverables. It’s not in question, it’s more of a reminder to the team that we are here to support each other and students as best we can, also while some of us care for our children-loved ones-family.
8. UA student housing updates can be accessed here: https://housing.arizona.edu/ua-news/housing-rent-credit Please share any resources you have that can assist students as they make arrangements.
9. Message sent to Associate Deans to distribute to faculty is below – Resources for Remote Teaching. You may find it resourceful yourselves (i.e. listen to webinars) as you help students when they reach out, as well as faculty in your respective units. Assistant Dean Jim Hunt is CALS resource to faculty regarding instruction, of which has been communicated to them and unit heads. Faculty can be reminded to be inclusive of all students as they continue transitioning to online teaching. They can advocate for students on the importance of preparing them as well (perhaps on survey) during this transition. Note that the UA library has extended technology equipment use for students as mentioned above on #2.
10. For timely updates, guidance, and communications from the University of Arizona, please visit arizona.edu/coronavirus-covid-19-information<https://www.arizona.edu/coronavirus-covid-19-information>.
Wishing you all a productive week and know that as a supportive team of colleagues - CALS family - we will continue to do our best to assist each other with the many transitions in place. All around student well-being and success in all aspects, will keep us moving forward. Self-care is key in making this happen. Thank you all for your support. Questions, ideas, feedback are always welcome.
Take care, be safe and stay healthy.
Best,
Nancy

Hi SASS team (and soon to be SASS team members),
I’ve uploaded these attachments and the Remote Advising Guide into a new folder in our SASS Box folder.
Please share widely with any other campus colleagues who might be preparing to advise or work fully-remotely for the first time. Our SASS advising team has a wealth of experience supporting students in this modality. Thank you, all, for serving as stewards and mentors for campus community who are trying to prepare themselves for this major shift in serving our students. I’m proud of everyone’s tireless efforts this week – and I’m hopeful that a silver lining of this emergency is that it will help our campus community embrace the possibilities that online learning can offer. This health crisis has truly necessitated a crash-course Arizona Online roadshow –
Beyond work, I hope that all of you are building in time for self-care and enjoying this beautiful spring weather here in Tucson (for those who are here). I, for one, am enjoying the fact that I can working from my blossoming back patio and appreciate the extra time with my munchkins (even if they are a bit distracting at times, lol). Remote work can become a slippery slope to over-work… take care and be kind to yourself.
If anyone has questions or needs additional support, please don’t hesitate to let me know however I can help.
Take care – and keep an eye out for more updates as I know more.
Best,

Subject: [WNC Liaison Comm] Working from home guides
Good afternoon. With the current situation regarding staff and faculty working from home, we’ve put together some guides to help you be able to connect to campus from home. There are different levels of need for connectivity, and will try to address them broadly here. For in-depth reference, please see the enclosed documents.
Also, please forward this email to any supported staff who will be working from home.
* If you just need to work with email, you do not need to do anything other than use webmail/OWA or Outlook on your home computer
* If you also need to work with some areas of UAccess Financials, you’ll need to install and connect with the VPN client
* If you need to connect to your work PC from home, you’ll need the VPN client as well as configure an RDP client
* If you have your work laptop at home and need to connect to your network drive(s)/shared drive(s), be sure to connect to the VPN client
Attached are the documents:
* Get Machine name of Windows 10 computer.pdf
* You’ll need your computer name in order to connect to it from home
* Enable RDP.pdf
* RDP will need to be enabled in order to connect to your work pc from home
* Set Win10 Computer Not to Sleep.pdf
* Sleep needs to be disabled on your Work PC so it doesn’t drop off the network
* Connect to Work PC From Home Mac.pdf
* Guide on how to connect to your work computer from a Mac computer at home
* Connect to Work PC From Home Mac.pdf
* Guide on how to connect to your work computer from a PC computer at home
Thank you,

Subject: 3/15 Update: Resources for remote teaching
Dear Associate Deans,
Below is the most recent update on resources to support remote teaching.
Stay healthy,
Lisa Elfring
----------------------------------------------------
Dear instructors,
The Instructional Continuity Support team is developing resources to support you in the switch to remote teaching. I would like to alert you to three sources of support:
1. Starting Monday, we offer a series of Zoom-based webinars to familiarize instructors with technologies and approaches to online instruction. There's no need to register; the link in the table will take you to the Zoom room. Click here for webinar schedule.
<https://facultyaffairs.arizona.edu/teaching-continuity-webinars>
2. The virus situation continues to change rapidly. We are trying to assess which instructors need technology equipment so they can teach from home. Please complete the following Technology Survey <https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4JcmJ3BvE7SDQGx> to help us assess needs.
3. We have expanded service hours to better serve you during this transition. You can reach the support team for phone and email support Monday-Friday 8 am-8 pm and weekends, 10 am to 5 pm (d2l at email.arizona.edu<mailto:d2l at email.arizona.edu>; 520-626-6804).
We will continue to update you as more resources are available.
With best regards,
Lisa Elfring, on behalf of the Instructional Continuity Support Team
