Dear Deans:


As you might know elections for Faculty Senate are under way.  In a number of Colleges, including yours, there are insufficient candidates to fill the designated seats.  The details are below, including how many signatures are needed on the nominating petitions.  Instructions and petitions are attached.


Could you please make an effort to encourage appropriate faculty to run for the College Senate seats?  We are trying hard to revitalize Senate, and have met with some success so far -- but we need committed faculty to represent each College, and that is where you can help.


The next phase starts on March 7, so there is time to get out the word to encourage nominees.  I hope you will help in this task by contacting your faculty collectively, or specific individuals, to encourage them to participate.

The following colleges need 1 or more representatives to Faculty Senate:

Eller has 1 of 2 needed                                  needs 13 signatures

CALS has 1 of 2 needed                                 needs 20 signatures

COFine Arts has 1 of 2 needed                   needs 12 signatures

Science has 1 of 3 needed                            needs 20 signatures

SBS has 1 of 3 needed                                    needs 20 signatures

ENGR has 0 of 2 needed                               needs 12 signatures

COM-Tucson has 1 of 2 needed                 needs 20 signatures

Public Health has 0 of 1 needed                 needs 4 signatures

The term is for two years-June 2016 through May 2018. The General Election request for petitions will go out March 7th and the petitions along with a bio-statement need to be at the Faculty Center by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, March 23rd.
