The NIH Shared Instrumentation Program (S10)<http://arizona.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b6ba9388f9c749678c5f1628d&id=65c372ede3&e=4766314e36> and the NIH High-End Instrumentation (HEI) Grant Program (S10)<http://arizona.us8.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=b6ba9388f9c749678c5f1628d&id=9b7e366e2b&e=4766314e36> have been announced and the Office for Research & Discovery (ORD) is encouraging as many unique submissions to these important programs as possible.  In order to coordinate these proposal writing activities, and to maximize the benefit to UA research programs, ORD is requesting Intent to Submit notification and Pre-Proposals for these programs.

Please note the following important dates:

  *   ORD intent to submit notification deadline:  February 29, 2016 (gives us a chance now to estimate our workload, and if there is duplication in requests, to combine those into one stronger proposal).
  *   ORD pre-proposals internal review deadline:  March 15, 2016.
  *   Sponsor deadline:  May 16, 2016 (meaning that the proposal needs to be submitted to UA Sponsored Projects at least three business days before this date!!!!)
Intent to Submit Notification:  Interested faculty should send an email to ORD at resdev at email.arizona.edu<mailto:resdev at email.arizona.edu> by February 29, 2016 which states that they intend to submit a proposal to the NIH Shared Instrumentation Program and/or the NIH High-End Instrumentation Program, and include their name, their department name, and most importantly, the type of instrumentation(s) that will be proposed.

Pre-proposal Submission: Interested faculty should also forward a pre-proposal for each instrumentation submission (no more than two pages, plus a biosketch) to ORD at resdev at email.arizona.edu<mailto:resdev at email.arizona.edu> by March 15, 2016.  They should copy their Dean on this email.

The pre-proposal should include:

  *   PI Name and brief NIH-format biosketch.
  *   A brief description of the instrumentation and its application.
  *   An estimated cost for the instrumentation and names of potential users at UA.
  *   Estimates for the cost of technical support, service contracts and maintenance, and other operational costs.
  *   If it is clear, indicate what existing university core facility will house the instrument?   If unclear, please consult with ORD on placement of this equipment.  Describe special-purpose instrumentation, which might be housed outside of university core facilities, providing justification of specialized need, sharing, and a robust business and sustainability plan.
