Subject: [diversity-in-stem] Initiative to retain undergraduates in STEM: RSVP
Sent on behalf of Margaret Briehl [mailto:mmbriehl at pathology.arizona.edu]
Hello,
I'm contacting you about a time-sensitive opportunity to create more effective ways to teach science in a way that retains undergraduates in STEM at UA. The opportunity is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute-funded program called Inclusive Excellence (see attached overview of the program). Briefly, it would provide five years of funding to help UA build its capacity to effectively engage students in science throughout their undergraduate years, especially those who come to college via nontraditional pathways. To be a successful applicant, we need to propose new ways of learning that will result in sustained institutional improvement in STEM retention.
We invite you to participate in this opportunity by:
1) Attending one of the working meetings in the week of October 10th to help develop ideas for the program; indicate which date/time you will attend using the Doodle poll at:
http://doodle.com/poll/fg5xhzxragyciatn
2) Completing the attached questionnaire to provide your input and ideas - please send answers back by October 6th, whether or not you are able to attend a working meeting.
The working meetings will be held in the Office of Student Engagement - SUMC room 248 between the Sabor and Core eateries.
We look forward to your contributions,
HHMI Inclusive Excellence Planning Team - Carol Bender, Margaret Briehl, Jennifer Cubeta and Walt Klimecki
