Agvisors:
Below is the email all first time probationary students received in May. A
reminder will be sent later this month. All students will be required to
participate in a program called Promoting Academic Student Success (PASS)
overseen by UA Student Affairs. Additional information on this will be
discussed at the agvisors meeting.
As aforementioned the academic contracts, now referred to as 'academic
agreements' are now available on UAccess Student Services Center for both
students and advisors to view. The attached Business Process Guide will
provide you will additional information. I have requested view access for
all agvisors in CALS that attend the agvisors meetings to start with. If
you would like additional faculty advisors/mentors to have access to this
send me their NetId. The college default for the academic agreements have
already been entered. Kristen and I will modify it as we meet with students
individually. If you are interested in creating any stipulations on behalf
of the department (i.e. must earn a B in NSC308 in Fall to be allowed to
continue in the major) let me know.
I know we all get many emails which is why I was going to wait and discuss
this at the Agvisors meeting, but also acknowledge it's important to make
you aware of what students are receiving.
Keep me posted if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions.
Thanks in advance,
Nancy

Email sent to all 1st time probationary students after Spring 2013:
May 25, 2013
Dear Student,
Please be advised that after the Spring 2013 semester, your cumulative grade
point average (GPA) was below a 2.0; therefore, you have been placed on
academic probation for any semester thereafter until your cumulative GPA is
a 2.0 or above. Failure to reduce your B deficit after Fall 2013 could
result in a disqualification from the College and/or the University. The B
deficit is how many units of B you need to raise your cumulative GPA to a
2.0.
Since this is your first time on probation, you are required to complete the
steps below before September 6, 2013 in the following order:
* Completely fill out attached Academic Plan.
* Schedule an appointment with your major advisor to discuss and sign
Academic Plan. List of CALS advisors can be found on-line at
http://advising.arizona.edu/node/6
* Schedule an appointment to review completed Academic Plan and sign
an academic contract with one of the advisors in the Office of Career and
Academic Services. This appointment can be scheduled by calling (520)
621-3616 or in person at the Forbes Building Room 211.
Failure to complete all three steps above will prevent you from registering
for the Spring 2014 semester. An advising hold will be placed on your
UAccess Student Center on September 7 if you have not completed the steps
above.
Your current situation is reparable as long as you seek assistance from
campus resources. I assure you that the advisors and tutors here are wholly
committed to your academic success. Please address the situation now, so
that you can successfully complete your degree program. If further steps
are required the college will notify you. (students will also receive an
email regarding their participation in the PASS program)
Sincerely on behalf of the Academic Standards Committee,
Nancy Rodriguez-Lorta
