Dear SPLS Faculty,

It is time to ensure that we have our courses scheduled correctly for Summer and Fall 2025. In addition to standard classroom-based courses, this includes any lab journal clubs, independent studies, graduate thesis credits, etc. that you can plan for now. This is a time-sensitive request, with instructions below.

Thank you for doing this, and thank you to Samantha for taking the lead in compiling this information and developing these helpful instructions for us.

Warm regards,

Betsy

Teaching in summer 2025 or fall 2025? If so, as soon as possible, please do the following:

  1.
Check your Summer and Fall 2025 instruction schedules in UAccess<https://uaccess.arizona.edu/>

  2.
After logging in to UAccess, click on “Instructor Center” and then “Change Term” to Summer 2025 (if applicable) and then Fall 2025 (if applicable). You will be checking to be sure your intended teaching is properly reflected in the listings on UAccess.

  3.
Look for courses/course sections that you need to delete, add, or edit and send this information to Danielle Buhrow (danielleb at arizona.edu<mailto:danielleb at arizona.edu>), cc’ing Samantha Orchard (orchard at arizona.edu<mailto:orchard at arizona.edu>) and Betsy Arnold (arnold at ag.arizona.edu). If no changes are needed we would appreciate hearing this as well, and you can drop us a quick note and end the process here.

  4.
Should you need to ADD a new course section (including independent studies, etc.), please include the following information in your request to Danielle, Samantha, and Betsy:

     *
What semester and session will you be offering the course section? [i.e., will the course be semester-long (“regular academic session”) or if it is less than a full-semester in length, will it be the first or second session (for example, Summer<https://catalog.arizona.edu/calendar#2024-20251> has two 5-week sessions and Fall has two 7-week sessions)?]

     *
What is the course prefix (PLP, PLS, or MIC) and number? [Requests for MIC courses will be completed by ACBS but Danielle can coordinate this request]

     *
In which modality (in person? online?) will you be offering the course?

     *
For which campus will you be offering the course? Main campus, UA-Yuma, or a microcampus?

     *
What days and times will you be offering the course? Please choose times that align with the standard meeting times<https://registrar.arizona.edu/faculty-staff-resources/room-course-scheduling/schedule-classes/standard-meeting-times> for centrally-scheduled classrooms.

     *
Do you want to use a centrally-scheduled classroom (TBD by Room and Course Scheduling) or a specific CALES- or SPLS-managed room (provide building name and room number)?

     *
What enrollment cap do you want to have? Do you want to restrict enrollment, so that students have to be enrolled by someone in SPLS? This is recommended for independent study, directed research, and graduate research credits, but not for ‘standard’ courses.

Notes:

  * Any major shifts in our proposed course delivery may require review by the relevant Curriculum Committee(s) prior to approval.

  *
If you have questions about your instructional FTE or related matters, please reach out to Betsy.
