Dear colleagues,
Many of us know Dr. Brian Larkins personally and professionally, or if not, then certainly by the reputation of his exceptional scientific achievements in plant biology. With regret I share that Dr. Larkins has entered hospice care, as outlined in the tribute and appreciation linked below. The blog entry describes many warm reflections on Dr. Larkins and his contributions not only to science, but to many people who drive science forward.
Prior to his retirement, Brian was a leader on campus as a Regents Professor, and his leadership of our unit was burnished by his elected membership in the National Academy of Sciences. His contributions have shaped our faculty and strongly influenced our excellence as a program, while also defining and greatly advancing major research areas in the plant sciences.
Please consider keeping Brian and his loved ones, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts.
Warm regards,
Betsy

Brian Larkins, a career-long ASPP/ASPB member and former Society president, Editor-in-Chief of The Plant Cell, architect of our Centennial fundraising successes, and editor of the recently published update to ASPB’s history, let us know last week that he was suffering from an incurable blood disease and had decided to enter hospice care.
