Greetings SPLS faculty,
Please excuse this long email but it contains important information on the 2022 SPLS Annual Performance Review process. As with last year, the reviews are going to be more formative and less evaluative following a new 2-tier rating system of "Meets or exceeds expectations or "Does not meet expectations". This Peer Review process has been reviewed and revised at the University level and can be reviewed at the following link:
https://policy.arizona.edu/employment-human-resources/annual-performance-reviews-faculty
In addition, the SPLS Continuing Annual and Post-Tenure Peer Review Process and Criteria, which have been followed by our unit for several years, are attached to this email. Note: following this APR cycle, the unit will discuss and revise the SPLS Process and Criteria document as necessary.
The Interfolio UA Vitae site has now been configured properly for SPLS and we can begin building our 2022 reports for review. Please log on to the UA Vitae site, https://uavitae.arizona.edu/, select "UA Vitae", and this will take you to our familiar UA Vitae Home page. Under "My Tasks", you should see the link "Please enter your 2022 SPLS Activities for Annual Review". This will take you to the 2022 SPLS Activity Input Form where you will begin entering or confirming information for your 2022 activities. For information that has been auto-filled please review carefully to ensure accuracy. Please pay attention to bullets that say "Activities require your attention". These must be corrected/confirmed before you can successfully submit your APR for review. And please pay special attention to the section that says "Major Commitments and Plans" as this will be reviewed by the School Director to help assess your performance as it relates to your current Position Description.
To view your current Position Description, click on the Profile link on the left side of the page. Review your Profile to ensure accuracy, and at the bottom of the Profile page is your CALS Position Description. Please review and edit for accuracy with your Position Description on file as this will be reviewed by the School Director and the APR Committee during their performance evaluations.
As we have all been informed of earlier, there is a new addition to the UA Vitae site where we are to upload a faculty CV. The SPLS APR committee has discussed this at length and has agreed to use the uploaded faculty CV principally for their 2022 evaluations. The additional UA Vitae data will be used for information that the CV does not provide. The committee asks each faculty to review the recommended UA CV template that was emailed to all faculty by Jean McLain earlier this month, and is attached to this email. Following the CV template, please provide for each category only data for the last 3 years, not the entire category history. This will provide for the committee a clear and precise summary of the information for which each faculty member wishes to be evaluated. The committee will also review the Position Description provided in the other UA Vitae sections. Once all the UA Vitae information has been successfully uploaded, please hit the Submit button to provide access of your report to the Peer Review committee. You must complete and submit your UA Vitae information by Jan 31, after which no more data can be included in the 2022 report.
Following the Peer Review committee meeting and report, you will receive that report and be able to respond to it prior to receiving a Unit head written review. After the Unit head review you will also be able to respond to it on the Appointed Personnel Evaluation form, as we have done in the past. The new guidelines do not require annual meetings between all faculty members and the Unit head. The following people must still meet with the unit head, and anyone not in this category can meet with the unit head if they desire to:
* Annually for all tenure-eligible and continuing-eligible faculty, regardless of rating;
* Annually for all career-track faculty who are at their initial rank of assistant (clinical, research, or professor of practice) or lecturer;
* When the rating in any category is “needs improvement” or “unsatisfactory” for tenured, continuing or career-track faculty;
* As requested by faculty members.
Good luck and don't hesitate to email me if you have questions.
Barry
2022 SPLS APR Committee Chair
