[Plsfaculty] for those of you who continue to ignore the 8 and 3 day rules

The office received two proposals this morning that have many problems with
the budgets, titles, etc. Both of these proposals must be submitted to the
agency tomorrow. Not only was the 3 day rule ignored (getting it in at 11:00
pm does not count as a day) but the office was not aware that these
proposals were coming in and so the 8 day rule was ignored. The 8 day rule
allows staff to get the budget ready to go and so this also has to be
squeezed in. The really terrible thing about all of this is that there is
very little likelihood that we will be able to finish these grants and get
them routed in time for submittal such that the faculty member has spent all
of this time and now the staff are going to be stressed trying to get these
through in time.

I have been cautioning you one at a time when you do not submit the grants
on time but now I want to make everyone aware that for the staff to process
your grant applications, you must follow the 8 and 3 day rules. If you don't
follow the 8 day rule, Donna-Rae must sign off on your exception. If you
don't follow the 3 day rule, I must approve it and these will be few and far
between. There needs to be an extreme need and you must have followed the 8
day rule.

Just a bit more information, our staff does a great job for you with the
budgets and the College does not find errors. Apparently, with the exception
of SWES (Jeff is reading this), not all of the other units in CALS do as
well. We have requested to be exempted from their sign-off but it has been
denied. As such, we have no choice but to run it through CALS before we can
take it to the University. If you do not follow the 8 and 3 day rules you
are gambling that someone will be in this office to process it for you
immediately and that someone in CALS will be able to put everything else
aside and do it as timely. We are not doing this to make your lives
miserable but to increase your probability of getting funded. ken
