Greetings Agvisors:

Thank you for always contributing to a productive meeting. In this email
you fill find information that was requested at the meeting. I will also
need a response from each department indicating who the point of contact
should be for curriculum updates. The deadline for 2014-15 curriculum
updates is December 15, 2013. The UA curriculum team would like a designee
per unit. Let me know by 10/30 on who this should be. Thanks in advance.

Freshman Orientation college meeting information:

Attached is the presentation we provide to all incoming freshmen and their
guests (mostly parents). It is in PDF to make it easier for you to
selectively print. (Fall 2013 Orientation Presentation.pdf)

Second Language and Math Substitution Requests:

If a student requests a math or second language course substitution request
based on a documented learning disability with the Disability Resource
Center (DRC) refer them to CAS in Forbes 211 to speak with Kristen or
myself. We have forms that students need to fill out. If one of the DRC
learning consultants emails you regarding a request please forward me the
email (nancyr at ag.arizona.edu). Second language course substitutions
requests are the most common. For math it's very rare a request comes
through due to the foundation math level that our majors require.

CAS Agvisors website:

Kristen sent out an email earlier today regarding the details of this
website address. (Thanks Kristen!) Hope you find the information useful.
As aforementioned it's a work in progress so make sure you provide us with
feedback as ideas arise. This site is for advisors reference only -
www.cals.arizona.edu/cas/agvisors Students should be referred to
www.cals.arizona.edu/cas

Math Information:

Math Information is attached along with a detailed email at the end of this
message. I could not find the math handout that can be cut out in quarter
size paper for advisors to provide to students, but have put in a request
for it. The attached handouts have similar information though.

If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions please let me know.

Thanks again for all you do to make CALS advising one of the best on campus!

Best,

Nancy

Subject: [Agvisors] FW: [UPAC] FAQs for math, 100, 100AX, orientation, S4S

Hi,

There are no major changes to math placement or test scores for Fall 2013.
I have attached some Math 100AX and 100 FAQs, as well as FAQs about testing
and placement.

Math 100 and 100AX are NOT ONLINE. Please read the attached information to
find out
more about the format of these courses. Feel free to distribute the Math
100AX
and 100 FAQ documents to students. We will also have copies available at
orientation
Math advising in the Ventana room, 11-1.

We are going green this summer and greatly reducing the number of handouts
given to students. All the information students need can be accessed
through the Math Placement link of the Next Steps Center, which is also
included in the Quick Guide to Placement. Students can find out about
retesting, review, ProctorU testing, transfer credit, and other great
information(math.arizona.edu/placement/freshman).

If a student tests prior to arriving at orientation, the score will be
processed
in time to add appropriate math courses to the student's schedule at
orientation.

We have many dynamically dated courses that do not start on the first day of
class, or
that end early. These courses include Math 122A, 122B, 100AX, 100, and 111.
Students
need to check the start and end dates in UAccess.

The Schedule for Success presentation is also attached. Please review this
before orientation. There are some minor changes to the program. In short:
- Students are enrolled in both Math 100AX and SAS 100AX (same as last
year).
- SAS 100AX is the first 7 weeks of the semester. Students will do many
things
in this class, including getting introduced to ALEKS, work in ALEKS, and
start
using the technology required for Math 100AX. Students will take an ALEKS
assessment
around the 6th week of this class to determine if the student will remain in
Math 100AX
or switch up to Math 100.
- Math 100AX starts October 14 and will be similar in format to last year.
- We will have special sections of Math 100 that will start October 14
for Schedule for Success students who are able to switch up. The exact
criteria has not yet been set.
-Check out the Schedule for Success website at
http://scheduleforsuccess.arizona.edu .
