Subject: Student Employment Workshop at upcoming SRM Meetings

The SRM 2018 Meetings are almost here.  I am hoping to see you in Reno, NV for our annual meetings of the Society for Range Management.  Once again, we have a full schedule of student events planned.  We are hoping that you are planning to join us and participate in all or some of our varied student events and competitions.

I am writing to announce the development of a Student Employment Workshop on Sunday, Jan. 28 from 1-5 pm at the SRM Meetings in Reno, NV.  We used to hold this workshop as a regular event for students at the SRM Meetings and have brought it back due to student interest.

This year , Jessica M. Dhaemers, Rangeland Management Specialist for the US Forest Service from the Beaverhead and Deerlodge National Forests in Montana, has offered to host our Employment Workshop.  We are excited to have her expertise and knowledge at this Workshop.  She is planning a short presentation including the following topics: 1) What does a federal resume’ look like?  2) Recent changes to the USA jobs website and application process, 3) How to set up USA jobs profiles?, 4) The Dos and Don’ts of the federal application process, 5) How to search for available jobs, 6) Questions to expect in the interview process, 7) How to give a good interview, etc.  She will be available after the presentation to answer questions and help students prepare for “on the spot” hiring applications and interviews at the SRM Meetings.

There will be a Job Fair from 8-5pm on Sunday, Jan. 28.  The Student Employment Workshop will run from 1-5 pm and is located next to the Job Fair!

Also, don’t forget the Student Conclave Mixer and Meeting from 5-8 pm (after the Employment Workshop) on the Chalet Terrace of the Nugget Casino and Resort (hors d'oeuvres will be served).  We will also be holding registration for several student events during this mixer.
