Here is an opportunity for students interested in a career in industry growing produce or florals. If you are interested in being considered for a scholarship to attend the Produce Marketing Association Conference<http://www.pmafoundation.com/> in Monterrey, CA May 11 -13, please let Dr. Gene Giacomelli know of your interest by Monday Jan. 12 at 5pm. All airfare, hotel and registration costs will be covered for the 2 days of programing with industry professional.

Attached are the proposed program information, and below are my notes from my phone call with Alicia Calhoun.
Tech knowledge event -
May 11th in am in Monterrey, CA lunch w/student orientation...learn their expectations
Industry PMA do an industry  overview 30k view of the veggie and floral industry
4 -5 industry doing a career panel, to hear for the leaders about how they got there, on more personal basis
Match each student with career ambassador. Then, overall total tech session reception.
Tues 12/Wed 13 Attend tech sessions
General session - computational capacity changes the supply chain
Breakouts - genome sequencing; future tech - flavor perception; quality preservation - post-harvest losses by tech;  production tools innovations - CEA and other emerging for yields/quality
Young professional experiences
Lunch and learning lounge
Afternoon is a shark tank feature, inventors, judges, etc.
Reception to end day
Wed 1/2 day - robotics - lower costs, herbicides; consumer demands
Break and wrap-up session 12:00 - 1pm
End meeting at 1pm

It was nice to talk with you earlier today. As promised, I wanted to share two draft schedules with you. One is the draft Career Pathways schedule. The other is the Tech Knowledge draft schedule. My hope is that reviewing these schedules will provide you with details necessary to make a decision on having four of your students (and one faculty) attend this event. My goal would be to have confirmation from you by January 9th of your participation and a list of your students names and contact details by January 30 if you are participating.
