[Plsgs] SAPPS meeting summary

Hello all,

We had a very fun and cool SAPPS meeting yesterday! Sorry if you couldn't
make it this time, but don't worry, there will be other opportunities soon.
Here is a recap:

*1) Seminar speakers: *
Graduate students have been asked to host a seminar speaker this fall and
spring (or two in the spring if we cannot get a speaker for the fall). We
came up with several potential seminar speakers yesterday, in addition to
several suggestions I received prior to the meeting. Please vote for your

*2) Retreat speakers*
The faculty are planning a departmental retreat for this upcoming December,
and are asking for our opinions on which faculty should speak at the
retreat. We came up with a list of potential faculty speakers in the
department.* Please vote for your preferred retreat speakers (using the
same link as seminar speakers) by September 22nd. *

*3) Budgets and Events for this year*
I would like to formulate a club budget by the end of the month, including
proposed SAPPS-led events. Several ideas for events that were mentioned in
the meeting include: semesterly sporting events (softball, kickball),
mixers, or trivia with pizza :). All proposed events are outlined in the
meeting minutes (attached to this email).

*4) Logos and Merch*
Another item for the budget is club-specific merchandise (we are currently
thinking of having an option of a tshirt or lab coat, but other suggestions
are welcome). However, we need a fun club logo first! If anyone has a fun
idea for a logo and would like to submit a sketch/image for a logo, please
upload it to the form below:

In two weeks, we will vote on the final logo. *Please submit logo ideas by
September 29th. *
