Hello all,

Dr. Sindhuja Sankaran is visiting from Washington State University on September 19 for a seminar.

Advanced sensing technologies for applications in crop phenomics and management applications
In recent years, sensing technologies have greatly advanced both in terms of hardware and software capabilities, enabling the integration of the technologies to assist in crop production and improvement. In this talk, Sankaran will highlight a couple of new approaches that her lab is exploring for both phenomics and crop production applications. In the first approach, biogenic volatile organic compounds emitted by pathogens and plants, which can reveal information about basic plant bioprocesses such as adaptation, defense mechanisms, and biological pathways, are explored. Using an online biogenic volatile profile monitoring system and chemometric tools for sensing, we anticipate that the findings can positively influence our understanding of host-pathogen interactions, molecular mechanisms and metabolomics, and early pathogen detection (agronomy, ecology and precision agriculture). In the second approach, we are exploring internet of things (IoT) based sensing systems for monitoring dynamic crop responses to the environment. We hope that we will be able to better capture crop – environment interactions through high temporal and spatial resolution data.

Please sign up if you are interested in in talking to her about electronic noses for plant phenotyping, high precision and high throughput drone imagery or the Internet of Things for plants.

Here is the sign-up sheet. Only a very limited number of spots are available this time:
