[Plsgs] PLS Graduate Student Club 2019 - 2020

Dear SPLS Graduate Students,

The end of the 2018-2019 academic year is coming to a close, which marks
almost a full year of the Plant Science Graduate Student Club!  In addition
to holding several social and educational outreach events including the
SPLS Faculty vs Student Kickball game and participation at AZ STEM
Adventure, we obtained graduate business cards, club T-shirts, and
third-party club funds.  Because of this, I really think the club should
continue for 2019 - 2020!

Like many of you, I will be graduating this semester, and so we will need
to elect a new president and officer positions. * If you will be here next
semester and are interested in continuing the club, please send an
anonymous vote here:*  https://doodle.com/poll/qbxdmqqfk6fpy2an.  If we get
at least 6 votes (number of officer positions and 25% of total current
graduate students), then we will hold a meeting to establish new club
officers and brainstorm plans for 2019 - 2020.

Personally, I think the graduate club is important for maintaining a
student voice in the PLS grad program and establishing a connection among
students whos groups may be otherwise disconnected.  Additionally, it
provides an opportunity to take a leadership role as an officer and
participate in student-run educational outreach during your time as a
graduate student (two experiences that are beneficial to have after
graduation).  Admittedly, between thesis writing and TAing two courses, I
haven't had much time to focus on the club this semester, but I can
definitely say overall it's been a valuable experience.  If at the very
least, we should hold another Faculty vs. Student Kickball game to exact
our revenge :-)
