Subject: October GradFunding - Advice
This simple step could earn you thousands of dollars. (And it does not
involve working from home or secret shopping.)
Sign up for funding alerts.
As a University of Arizona student you have access to an amazing array of
resources. These resources include searchable databases of funding
opportunities. Exploring these databases will give you insight into the
opportunities that are available for you and your work. Both of the
databases featured in this article also provide personalized funding alerts
that will deliver relevant opportunities directly to your inbox.
Pivot <http://pivot.cos.com/shome> (http://pivot.cos.com/shome)
Pivot is managed by the Community of Science, but also contains extensive
information for the humanities and arts. Use the Advanced Search option to
determine which key words and perimeters give you the best results. Under
Limited Submission you can specify funding type and choose types such as
dissertation funding, research, travel, or postdoctoral study. You can also
specify graduate student under requirements.
Once you find a productive combination of search terms and requirements, you
can save the search. When you save the search, you will be asked if you
would like weekly updates. Yes, you do. A weekly email will be delivered to
your inbox with fresh opportunities.
GrantForward <http://www.grantforward.com/index>
(http://www.grantforward.com/index)
GrantForward is another excellent database of funding opportunities. Under
the Advanced Search, you can specify grant type and choose from a list
including options such as: doctoral, fellowship and scholarship, or travel.
GrantForward also gives you the opportunity to save your searches and
receive weekly updates on the searches.
The funding world is full of strange and specialized niches. For example,
the Newberry Library has a fellowship for research that links the
collections at the Newberry with the Herzog August Bibliothek in
Wolfenbüttel, Germany. For the right researcher, this fellowship is an ideal
opportunity. Signing up for the Pivot and GrantForward funding alerts will
notify you of opportunities that may be equally as obscure, but a perfect
fit for your research.
