One more hello, grad students --

I'm writing with one more funding note for you.

If you are a Ph.D. student who has passed your comprehensive exams, you are
eligible to apply for an NSF Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grant. This
requires a formal proposal (submitted by you and your advisor, with your
advisor participating *VERY* actively) and must be routed through Sponsored
Projects, which means that you need to plan ahead (as though the deadline
were one week before the NSF deadline). The NSF deadline is Nov. 9. Please
let me know if you plan to apply.

These prestigious awards provide research funds (not stipend support) and
are only open to Ph.D. students who have advanced to candidacy. However,
one need not be a US citizen to apply.

Details can be found here:

Cheers,
Betsy
