I would like to bring to your attention that SPLS will need to elect two faculty representatives to the ALVSCE Faculty Counci.

The email below contains further info on this important faculty governance mechanism in our college. A number of major issues are being addressed by this council<https://compass.arizona.edu/faculty-council> and its work is critical considering the ongoing financial problems and the recent changes in college leadership.

If you would like to self-nominate or nominate another faculty member, please let me know before 25-April. I will work with Betsy to set up an election to identify our two representatives.

Subject: ALVSCE Faculty Council Elections, Summer 2025 Governance Plan

Two items related to ALVSCE faculty governance.
Faculty Council Elections
Each Spring, faculty hold elections for ALVSCE Faculty Council<https://compass.arizona.edu/faculty-council> representatives. Each unit's current Faculty Council representatives are responsible for these elections. The term for these Faculty Council members will begin in Fall 2025 and end in Spring 2027. Elections should be completed by May 15, 2025. That will ensure we have adequate time for a proper transition.

Any ALVSCE faculty member with at least a 0.50 active faculty appointment in a unit may be nominated. Self-nominations should be encouraged. Faculty members may hold up to two consecutive two-year terms on the ALVSCE Faculty Council.

Any faculty member with at least a 0.50 active faculty appointment in a unit may vote for their unit's Faculty Council representative(s).

Schools have two representatives, Departments have one representative, and County CES has two representatives.

The way elections are done varies by unit, but it is a Faculty Governance responsibility to ensure that there is a call for nominations/self-nominations and that elections are held. Current Faculty Council members typically work within their unit's faculty governance structure to hold an election. If a unit does not have provisions for this within an existing Unit faculty committee, this can be done in a faculty meeting with secret ballots or via electronic ballot using a secure platform (e.g., Qualtrics).

For the upcoming year, we have 10 openings on the Faculty Council; some elections are underway or completed:
Agricultural & Resource Economics - 1 representative
Agricultural Education, Tech & Innovation - 1 representative
Animal & Comparative Biomedical Sciences - 1 representative - completed
Biosystems Engineering
Human Ecology - 2 representatives – in progress
Natural Resources & Environment - 2 representatives
Plant Sciences - 2 representatives
County Cooperative Extension - 1 representative
Each unit's Faculty Council representative(s) should announce the results within their units and report the election results via email to Katerina Dontsova, Chair-Elect. She will prepare an election report for the Faculty Council records and ensure that the 2025-2026 Faculty Council members are listed on the Faculty Council Compass website.
If you have any questions or need any assistance with ensuring that these elections are held and that all units are fully represented on the council, please reach out to the FC Chair or Vice Chair.


Summer 2025 Faculty Governance
On April 3, 2025, the ALVSCE Faculty Council approved the attached plan for engagement in shared governance during the summer, May 16, 2025, through August 23, 2025. It is similar to the plan that was adopted for Summer 2024.
