Dear all,

I'm not sure if I forwarded this to you earlier, but in case I did, here it
is again.

This is the third and final part of the Dean's visioning exercise.  In this
case, he is asking for a clear explanation of what the unit is all about:
it's purpose, mission, vision, and values.  In the case of PLS, this is
diverse, considering the variety of activities and responsibilities of
various faculty in the School.  In terms of "strategic goals", I think it is
important to identify no more than 2 or 3 that are different from what we're
already doing.  I'm not sure each of you has enough time to take on more
than one new effort, and perhaps not even that for some of you.  Therefore,
I suggest you read these documents and consider what you think can be (new,
old, modified) areas of focus that circumscribe groups of faculty within the
School.  We can discuss these ideas at the May 5th faculty meeting that
Donna-Rae is scheduling and decide how best to proceed writing the report.
This could be something my advisory committee (Arnold, Kubota, McCloskey,
Pryor, and Yadegari) could do, or you can nominate a different group of
people, providing they are willing to contribute.  We will have two weeks
after the May 5th faculty meeting to complete the exercise.

If you have any thoughts between now and then, please let me know.

last 3 1/2 month's work that you have led in your units.
