Donna-Rae sent the following message out requesting that you notify her if
you want summer supplemental compensation. I just feel that I should caution
all of you who have not responded that by waiting until May to notify her
will likely mean that you will not actually receive your compensation until
Aug and more likely Sept. Please just take a minute to read the following
and notify Donna-Rae now.
We are now 6.5 months into the new payroll system, and suffice to say -
there are many many issues with the system. One of the major issues this
past winter was payment for supplemental compensation. The request
documents took exceeding long to get through the approval process. Once,
the approvals had occurred the pay periods were past, and the retro payment
request system in UAccess does not work properly - therefore, we have to
adjust dates and bypass certain criteria to get faculty paid. This is not
the optimum situation - especially since most supplemental compensation is
paid on federal grants. There are issues with effort reporting and such.
Therefore, for the summer of 2010 - we are going to approach supplemental
compensation a bit differently. Although, the schedule has not been issued
yet by the UA - I would like all of the faculty who are eligible to be paid
supplemental compensation (9 month academic appointments) to send me an
email by the end of this week. Your email should have how many hours you
wish to work during the summer and be compensated (464 maximum hours - 155
per month for NSF grants with a max for the summer of 310 paid on NSF),
which grants/accounts, description of work/research to be done during this
time period, and the percent of time to be paid on these grants.
Supplemental compensation period for the summer will most likely be from
05.18.10 to 08.23.10.
On Monday of next week, we will begin completing the supplemental
compensation forms with the dates left blank (while waiting for the UA
official schedule.) I will verify the amounts you have on the accounts and
if the percent of time is agreeable to your request and effort. Please note
if you took Winter salary - those hours will be deducted from the total 464
hours of supplemental compensation.
Then when the schedule is released, I will ask each of the faculty member to
come to our office and sign the Supplement Comp form. These forms will be
only for the authorized hours by the UA, but the dates will be for the
entire summer just in case someone makes an error on their timesheet. The
error can be fixed on the timesheets as oppose to the UAccess Payment
Request system.
I will ask each of the Time Coordinators assigned to your laboratories to
work with you in complementing the time sheet for your supplement
compensation hours. Please remember you will have two timesheets to
complete each pay period while you are being paid supplemental compensation.
Delay in sending me your preliminary request as described in the 2nd
paragraph of this email, will possibly delay you being paid in a timely
manner.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this matter.
