RE: Principles of Plant Microbiology (PLP550).

PLP550 will be offered this fall, 2011 and an overview of the course is
given below. I, Hans VanEtten, will be the lead instructor in this course
and if you have any questions about the course please contact me at 621-9355
or vanetten at ag.arizona.edu. I will be off campus starting July 21 but will
periodically answer phone messages and email.

Principles of Plant Microbiology (PLP 550)

Overview

Principles of Plant Microbiology (PLP550) is a course for
graduate students with a special interest in the interactions of plants with
associated microflora. Plant pathogens are the primary focus but the course
will also include concepts underlying the development of symbiotic and
commensal relationships with plants. The course will emphasize the
mechanisms of how plants and microorganisms communicate to establish
relationships from the molecular level through the population level. Plant
pathogenesis and symbiosis will be examined with respect to their underlying
physiology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, population dynamics
and epidemiology. Classical and contemporary research results will be used
to illustrate the major concepts, experimental approaches, and emerging
theories, as well as the use of these concepts and principles in strategies
to control disease and manipulate microorganisms to improve plant health.
