Plant pathogens are the primary focus but the course will also include concepts underlying the development of symbiotic and commensal relationships with plants. The course will emphasize the mechanisms of how plants and microorganisms communicate to establish relationships from the molecular level through the population level. Plant pathogenesis and symbiosis will be examined with respect to their underlying physiology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, population dynamics and epidemiology.
