[Faculty] Engage with Faculty Council-Join us for ALVSCE Faculty Coffee Hour

Dear CALES and Cooperative Extension Service (CES) Faculty-

As the CALES/CES Faculty Council Chair for 2023-2024, I am writing to share a few updates and refreshers as we kick off the year. By the end of this email, my goal is for you to be ready to engage with Faculty Council this year and moving forward when it is helpful to you.

What is CALES/CES Faculty Council: "The role of Faculty Council is to formulate recommendations on how we can more efficiently manage and utilize resources to achieve greater effectiveness in carrying out our three-fold mission of teaching, research and extension." In practical terms, Faculty Council members discuss important questions, problems, ideas, and opportunities that impact CALES and CES faculty, and bring topics to conclusion. Some examples of FC approaches to addressing concerns and topics of our faculty constituencies include designing and conducting special projects, communicating issues to our administrators, and escalating topics to our Faculty Senators to address with Faculty Senate, among others.
Faculty Council and its members are also often invited to participate in meetings, and weigh in on various topics that concern faculty, at the request of the dean.

Who is on Faculty Council: The Faculty Council is composed of all elected and voting-eligible Faculty Senators with CALES or Cooperative Extension appointments, representatives elected by faculty within each CALES academic unit (one per department and two per school), and two elected representatives of county-based Cooperative Extension faculty.

When does Faculty Council meet: Meetings are held on the afternoon of the first Thursday of each month. They are not public meetings, but all notes are posted to our website, within 1 week or less following the meeting.

How to elevate topics to the Faculty Council agenda:

     *   Share ideas/concerns directly with their FC representative--> They can submit topics to our monthly agendas.
     *   Submit topics to the Senators form, which will then be shared out by the CALES senators to FC: https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_a4vcRICRZwxfebc

Let's Connect! We are teaming up with ALVSCE DEI Council to host 2 "coffee hours" this fall. These are casual opportunities to connect with faculty, foster a sense of community, and grab a cup of coffee (or tea) on the house (courtesy of ALVSCE).

September 13th and October 19th, 9:00-10:00am, in ENR2 building-Slot Canyon Café. No RSVP needed; All CALES/CES Faculty are welcome!
