[Faculty] Senators Report

Dear CALS Faculty,



Here are some important updates and information from the February 6th Faculty Senate Meeting (and remember that a recording of each faculty senate meeting can be found here<https://arizona.app.box.com/s/xypikopn45wdko3esv4r16bdiumw5y5s> if you’d like to view it).


  1.  Dr. Jenny Lee, the Chair of the General Faculty Committee on University Safety for All, provided a brief report about the committee’s report entitled Oversight and Response Failure Broken Trust<https://facultygovernance.arizona.edu/sites/default/files/2023-02/FINAL_REDACTED_01-30-2023%20-%20SAFETY%20REPORT.pdf>. Her remarks are attached, along with a newly released 1-page FAQ document about the report. We encourage all faculty to read it. The Faculty Senate passed a resolution supporting the work of the Committee and the report.
  2.  CALS Faculty Dr. Eric Lyons spoke about faculty concerns about the UITS centralization plan. Some of his major points are attached (in a word document).  During the conversation, a Union FAQ document<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1g1ZAHGPCXcI4zmy6G2ilJzJSOyqlfSNsEWwAYpP987I/edit?usp=sharing> about the UITS Centralization plan was shared by a non-senator through the Q&A. We think it may be helpful for folks to understand the scope of the project and what this means for the UA community.



There are two upcoming Faculty Senate meetings to know about:

Feb 27th, 3-5 pm - a special session devoted to procedural processes and recent changes/concerns (register here<https://arizona.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_oKEjewEBQKOjUdgALvA3EA>) and March 13th, 3-5 pm (register here<https://arizona.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_pE2CvNlORn-qq2EVzNrdMg>).


Unrelated to Faculty Senate, but important for CALS Faculty to know about:  We are attaching a Framework for the AIB College Committees. There are several important points covered in the document detailing costs funded by the academic units versus CALS central funds.
