Please prepare a letter of support in consultation with your unit head on unit letterhead according to the attached template that includes a space for signatures by the unit head and the Dean (Shane Burgess). This signed letter will need to accompany your final submission in the Competition Space Portal. Please see the instructions above for submitting your draft letter for review and the Dean’s signature. The signed letter will be returned to you for submission along with your proposal and budget spreadsheet.
Priority funding areas for Spring 2023:
* Increasing students’ success, graduation, and retention, especially for groups underrepresented within the relevant disciplines
* Promoting growth and opportunities to generate new revenues for the institution
* Expanding student experiential learning
* Enhancing research capacity
* Promoting diversity and inclusivity
Proposals will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
1. Evidence that the request directly supports the University’s strategic plan and institutional priorities (20%).
2. Evidence that the request promotes the University’s aspirations for institutional excellence, distinctiveness, and inclusivity (20%).
3. Evidence that the request promotes excellence in the host department and/or college/division/support unit (10%).
4. Likelihood of high impact and return on investment to the university, relative to other submissions (20%).
5. Feasibility of the project plan (practical plan, timeline, and budget) and funding sustainability plan (30%).
PIF proposal reviewers emphasize the following points:
* Alignment of proposals with university and/or college strategic directions must be more than superficial. Merely mentioning the relevant UA strategic pillars is not a winning strategy.
* The sustainability plan must clearly indicate how this program/entity will be supported beyond the PIF funding period. PIF projects are intended to kickstart sustained activities with long term impact at the university, college and/or unit level.
* Although research related proposals that enhance research capacity will be considered, support to launch and develop defined research projects, equipment requests, support for research workshops, etc. should be submitted to one of the several <https://research.arizona.edu/development/find-funding/internal-funding> i<https://research.arizona.edu/development/find-funding/internal-funding>nternal RII funding mechanisms.<https://research.arizona.edu/development/find-funding/internal-funding> <https://research.arizona.edu/development/find-funding/internal-funding> Contact Parker Antin if you have questions about which program (PIF vs. RII) is most appropriate for your proposal.
We look forward to receiving your proposal.
