Subject: Women in STEM luncheon

Dear Public Voices Fellows,

I'm writing to invite you to a Women in STEM luncheon as well as ask that you please share the invitation with faculty who may be interested in the event. I'd really appreciate it.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusive Excellence and the Office of Faculty Affairs invite faculty to join us for:

Women in STEM Faculty Career Discussion and Luncheon
Co-Sponsored by the Commission on the Status of Women Faculty Affairs Workgroup

Don't Go It Alone: Peer Mentoring and Supporting Women in STEM, Sept 9, 12-1:30, Old Main Silver & Sage Room, RSVP required<https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_ah3yvZ76KIxWvvT>
This event will introduce you to faculty in STEM from across campus to foster interdisciplinary collaborations and peer mentoring. You will also have a chance to brainstorm on shared concerns and consider how to communicate them to administrators to improve support for women in STEM. Lunch will be provided and attendees will receive copies of Every Other Thursday: Stories and Strategies from Successful Women Scientists<https://www.amazon.com/Every-Other-Thursday-Strategies-Successful/dp/0300510845/ref=mt_paperback?_encoding=UTF8&me=>, a highly rated book discussing how high-achieving scientists have successfully used bi-monthly meeting groups to advance their individual successes.

This luncheon will provide us with a chance to learn from each other on what issues need to be addressed, what can be done to increase the recruitment and retention of women in STEM at the UA, and how we can better support faculty in general. We will start with candid table discussions and then report out to the larger group. The feedback gathered through these discussions will dictate the programming and resources offered for the remainder of the academic year. Tricia Serio, Department Head of Molecular and Cellular Biology, will briefly discuss how a peer mentoring group provided her with vital support for her work, life and career. Attendees will have a chance to form such groups by rank and discipline. Please invite your networks to join us. We welcome faculty from any background to attend.

Please consider joining us for this event, or please forward this information to those who may be interested in attending. The attached documents contain the full schedule for the fall faculty career discussions and workshops. Please direct questions to Laura Hunter at lahunter at email.arizona.edu<mailto:lahunter at email.arizona.edu>.
