LOI DEADLINE EXTENDED TO AUGUST 31, 2016 AT 5:00PM
Four opportunities available from
American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant.
Important Dates
DEADLINE FOR PROPOSAL: Wednesday, October 5, by 5:00pm
v CANCER RESEARCH FUNDS AVAILABLE FOR NEW INVESTIGATORS
Qualified faculty from the University of Arizona and its affiliates are encouraged to apply for cancer research funds made available through an American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant (ACS-IRG). These funds are intended to provide seed money to new investigators to help them with starting their research programs and to obtain preliminary data in support of more extensive proposals. Only applications that relate to cancer research will be accepted. However, cancer-related research will be interpreted using the broadest definition.
Three awards of $30,000 each
v CANCER RESEARCH FUNDS AVAILABLE FOR NEW INVESTIGATORS IN AREAS OF SPECIAL INTEREST
Qualified faculty from the University of Arizona and its affiliates are encouraged to apply for cancer research funds made available through an American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant (ACS-IRG). These funds are intended to provide seed money to new investigators to help them with starting their research programs and to foster research in areas that are of special interest to the American Cancer Society. These areas include psychosocial and behavioral research, health policy or health services research, cancer in the poor and medically underserved, and childhood cancer. Only applications that relate to cancer research will be accepted. However, cancer-related research will be interpreted using the broadest definition.
One award of $30,000
Eligibility both opportunities
Tenure-track, clinical-track, and research-track faculty at the assistant professor level who have not had independent federal or American Cancer Society funding in the past are eligible to apply, and applicants must be within six years of their first independent research or faculty appointment.* A more detailed description of eligibility standards may be found in the "Definition of a New Investigator" document on the web site.
*However, individuals whose initial nationally peer reviewed research grant was not reviewed and who are still at the level of assistant professor may apply for an individual IRG-provided they are within the first six years of their independent faculty (or equivalent) appointment and have not received funds from the IRG before.
Note that new investigators who received ACS-IRG funding in previous years can reapply for continuation of their projects providing they still meet the other eligibility criteria. However, competitive renewals MUST include a completed progress report.

Budget requests may not exceed $30,000 in direct costs. Some restrictions on budgetary items apply. A detailed list is provided in the "ACS IRG Allowable Budget Items" document available on the web.
