The NIH Environmental Health Sciences Core Centers (EHS CC) (P30)<http://arizona.us8.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=b6ba9388f9c749678c5f1628d&id=148213dd98&e=db7a664467> program is intended to fund qualified institutions to support centralized scientific resources and facilities shared by investigators with existing research projects.  By providing intellectual leadership, advanced technologies/ methodologies, and supporting community engagement, a core center is intended to enhance the ability of scientists working in the field of environmental health sciences to identify and capitalize on emerging issues that will translate into advances improving the understanding of the relationships among environmental exposures, human biology, and disease. Application budgets are limited to $0.7M, $1.0M or $1.3M Direct Costs per year as determined by Direct Costs of NIH awards in which an EHS CC member is designated as the PD/PI. The EHS CC award is for a period of 5 years.

Important dates:

  *   College/Institute review internal deadline:  On or about February 16, 2015.  Please consult with your Dean’s/Director’s office for specific date.
  *   Office for Research & Discovery internal review deadline:  February 23, 2015.
  *   Sponsor Deadline:  April 22, 2015.
Interested investigators are asked to submit a pre-proposal to their deans for referral to the Office for Research & Discovery by the internal deadline. Pre-proposals will include a 2-3 page project description, outlining the Strategic Vision and leaders of the EHS CC, and should specifically address the following:

  *   Institutional Grant Support: To qualify for an EHS CC, the applicant institution must have a base of ongoing, independently supported, peer-reviewed research projects clearly dedicated to the study of environmental health sciences or environmental medicine, a substantial portion of which should be supported by NIEHS.  Please indicate the nature of the research base that will provides the major support for Center members who would benefit from shared resources and facility core use, i.e., how the EHS CC will build institutional research capacity. Required support must be a minimum of three distinct active NIEHS-supported research grants from three-member PDs/PIs with at least 1 full year of activity remaining at the time of submission, not including administrative extensions, either with or without additional funds.
