Dear Colleague,

I am pleased to announce that the Office for Research & Discovery (ORD) is expanding our internal funding programs for UA faculty. Beginning in February, faculty will have three new programs, in addition to our existing Faculty Seed Grant Program and George H. Davis Travel Fellowship, to further their research and discovery efforts.

The programs are designed to support all faculty, from early career to tenured faculty, and a range of concepts. Full details of the programs are available on the Research Gateway’s ORD Funding Opportunities page (http://rgw.arizona.edu/development/funding-opportunities/office-for-research-discovery-funding-programs<http://arizona.us8.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=b6ba9388f9c749678c5f1628d&id=d9b4cc4b1c&e=9deae42247>), but briefly, the programs are:

  * Incubating New Interdisciplinary Research Programs: Start for Success are planning grants available to interdisciplinary groups of investigators to incubate new research programs that promise to lead to significant external funding. Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 and can be used for activities such as workshops and consultants leading to development of an external proposal. Start for Success grants are accepted on an ongoing basis and take approximately one month to review.

  * Catalyzing New Interdisciplinary Research Programs: Accelerate for Success are available to interdisciplinary teams of accomplished faculty to wish to extend successful research programs into a new federal priority. Up to $150,000 may be requested to fund research staff and students, core facility use, and supplies. A one-to-one match from the unit is required. Proposals are accepted twice a year and review may take three months.

  * Operationalizing Interdisciplinary Research Program Success: Support for Large Complex Proposal Development are funds available from ORD to support the preparation of large complex proposals defined as greater than $10 million and multiple participating entities. Awards are up to $25,000 and are intended to supplement investments by participating units. Proposals are accepted on an ongoing basis and review may take one month.
The existing programs are still available for faculty, including:

  * Germinating Research Program Success: Faculty Seed Grants which provides awards on a competitive basis to early career faculty to “jump start” worthwhile projects that can be used in developing major proposals. Awards are up to $10,000 and accepted once per year with review taking about two months. 2015 applications are due March 2, 2015.

  * George H. Davis Travel Fellowship supports tenure-track faculty members in becoming more widely recognized for their work and more closely connected with colleagues, nationally and internationally. Applications are accepted once per year with review taking approximately one month.
I look forward to seeing the exiting research conducted by UA faculty, and know that together we can be successful, continuing UA’s presence as one of the top research universities in the country.
