Everyone, I would like to echo Ed's call to participate in shared governance at the UA. Like no time in our living memory, our future rests on all of our thoughtful input and I know it is valued by UA's administrators.

I want to thank those of you in CALS who participate and lead in UA shared governance.

Dear Fellow CALS Faculty,

Attached is a summary from our last two Senate Meetings (January 26 and February 4).  For more information, go to the faculty governance website at  http://facultygovernance.arizona.edu/.

In short, we discussed 1) the Governor's proposed budget and the possible impacts on the University and the students; 2) the meetings with ABOR; and 3) the meaning of Academic Freedom and  perhaps changes that need to be made at the UA to assure everyone is aware of our policy and guidelines.

We also approved a class participation, attendance and administrative drop policy that included on-line courses and acceptance the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) as a Credit-by-Exam Option (in addition to International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement exam scores).  This give departments the option to accept the CIE as a credit-by-exam option for their degree certification.

Finally, concern was expressed that we do not have enough faculty participation in our faculty governance system.  I encourage all that can, to participate as much as possible and please don't forget to vote at http://facultyvoting.arizona.edu/voter.
