SUBJECT:Leadership and Professional Development Opportunity for CALS Faculty
Since joining the CALS I have met many outstanding people and become
acquainted with as many exciting projects. One such project is the
Academic Leadership Institute (ALI) offered by the Provost's Office. The
ALI program is dedicated to building leadership capacity among UA
faculty and professionals.
The ALI program's success has motivated UA's Human Resources Division to
develop a leadership program for mid-career faculty who would not be
selected for the ALI's program but are interested in professional
development. Our own Norton School Director and ALI Advisory Board
member, Dr Soyeon Shim, is working closely with HR to offer this
additional professional development program and she has included the
most relevant business and development components of the ALI into this
new initiative.
The new program will take place this fall and it will include the
following components:
1)360-degree individual assessment and feedback.
2)Five 90 minutes sessions on the following topics:
obusiness communication
ochange management
ocoaching and conflict resolution
operformance documentation
o911 management
3)Six online modules to be completed over a 3-month period
4)Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
Soyeon, and the HR Division, invite CALS faculty to participate in this
new program. The program will be held on-site in Tucson and requires 20
faculty members.
For CALS to prosper, particularly during these challenging times, we
need leadership skills and innovative thinking. I encourage all CALS
faculty interested in professional development to apply and would be
thrilled if a large number of these 20 people in the first cohort were
from CALS.
