Hi, all-

I want to share an important update on our Community Nutrition Education program.

University leadership have authorized the use of bridge funding to continue a subset of our programming beyond the national SNAP-Ed program sunset date of September 30, 2025.

UA Cooperative Extension will utilize UACE restricted funds to sustain select SNAP-Ed positions and programs from October 1 through December 1, 2025 while we await final approval of the submitted $2.1 million UA SNAP-Ed carryforward proposal to Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS). The supported programs have been identified as addressing critical community needs related to food access, food availability, food systems, or active living.

If the ADHS proposal is approved, that funding will continue from December 1, 2025 through August 30, 2026.

Please note these important contingencies:
* If we do not receive approval for the carryforward funding, Cooperative Extension will have to provide notice to all affected employees and conclude the bridge program.
* If the proposal is approved, this funding stream will end August 2026.

In the coming months we will work together to reimagine how our UA Cooperative Extension Community Nutrition Education Program will continue to meet the needs of Arizona's communities. Our priority will be to identify alternative, sustainable funding to continue to support these positions.

We want to thank all SNAP-Ed funded staff for their incredible dedication and hard work. Their efforts have made a lasting impact in communities across Arizona-expanding access to healthy food, promoting active lifestyles, and supporting overall well-being.

We are grateful to ALVSCE and university leadership for their support of our program and the good work of our staff. We are also grateful to have the opportunity to continue to support the communities we serve by sustaining critical food access and physical activity projects across the state.

This is a bittersweet resolution, because we are not able to maintain all of the positions and programming that SNAP-Ed funding supported. However, this will allow us to maintain a core set of our trained professional workforce so that we can continue to serve our communities and it provides time to pivot to new opportunities.
Thank you for your support of your faculty and staff through this difficult transition,
Michele
