Directors,

Just a heads up. I completed this last night – not very long and not too hard. But apparently, everyone will need to get this done.

Dear Supervisors,

The university has consolidated the Defensive Driver training and the Driver Registration into a single, streamlined solution called “Driver Certification,” which will be available in EDGE Learning starting Tuesday, July 9.

What You Need to Know

All employees who drive for university business must complete the new Driver Certification training in EDGE Learning to ensure compliance with the University of Arizona Fleet Safety Policy<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=b946d446bf1a498e5213e3be95f95dfd78e9e301865a05f1383ca8b6b1fd469d3f43d2e51520c8852583b360f24691f9b881ba07b230585e>.

On July 9, employees who are currently registered as driving for university business will be automatically enrolled in the Driver Certification training. They will be notified to complete the training in EDGE Learning within 60 days. As a supervisor, you may be copied on reminder emails sent to your employees as the deadline approaches. You can track upcoming and overdue trainings in EDGE Learning and learn how to support your direct reports on the Manager Resources page<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=b946d446bf1a498e16df1c0f0d1b0d95fde90f50f2b7078e998d761704ebf244814e70afa9aa96817be9cafe91a8fdb287803d049fae188b>.

In addition, starting July 9, you will be able to assign the training<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=b946d446bf1a498eb84d6d525c47ca6d27428c34f92739948704026978e24190494e3e819f9eedb6bd82e8576a800f072e39a57d7398b7dc> to your direct reports who are not yet registered to drive for university business. Employees will also be able to self-register for the training in EDGE Learning.

About the New Driver Certification

To align with the Arizona Department of Administration fleet safety policy, the university has made the following changes to the University Fleet Safety Program<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=3f6158cd4675f5a9171095d210b501957251fb08281f3476a9dddae9d6686365b5a2d0228dbde80b02be94e9c80558355fce684e3f55d225>, which are reflected in the new Driver Certification training:

  * The new Driver Certification is a one-time requirement, either upon hiring or when employees are first required to drive for university business.
  * Once employees complete the Driver Certification, they will no longer be required to take a refresher training every four years, as long as they are in “acceptable status.”
  * Employees who drive for university business must have a valid Arizona state driver’s license, have an “Acceptable” Motor Vehicle Review status and complete the Driver Certification training.
  * There is no longer a minimum age and a 2-year driving experience requirement, unless driving a high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) for the university.

If you have any questions, please contact the Risk Management team at rms-contact at arizona.edu<mailto:rms-contact at arizona.edu?subject=> or (520) 621-1790.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in ensuring your employees are in compliance with the university’s Fleet Safety Policy requirements.

Sincerely,

Risk Management
