WEDA Principals,
See the request below from Singeru. He is looking for some examples of how to collect and record Extension activity data—in particular systems that can be used by Extension Agents to keep track of and report their extension activities. He’s looking for something that can be used on a tablet or other hand-held device. Please share with him any systems that you use or are aware of, that might be helpful.
Thank you,
Lyla

Hi Lyla,
I hope that you and your family and your colleagues all continue to be safe from the COVID.
I am trying to find out the best or the most appropriate way for my extension agents to be able to maintain their extension activity records—after they return from such an activity in the field/location.
In the years past, we used notebooks but I determined that they were old fashioned and not reliable; and often not used.
So, several years ago, we designed a web-based report system where the extension agents from throughout the far reaches of Micronesia can use office computers, access the electronic report template, and fill out with data from their extension activity.
When USDA began to work on the integration of extension and research, we stopped using that web-based report system. So we’ve been using different approach to collecting the extension activity reports. But the problem is I am afraid that the compilation of these data—from paper records, hand-held devices, etc.,--will be difficult to integrate when we try to put our Accomplishment Reports together later.
So I am looking at a little bit better way to collect Extension Agents reports starting next fiscal/program year.
Do you know or are you aware of some good examples of ways that Extension Agents collect/enter their data from their extension activities everyday? I am sure there are Extension Director or Associate Directors out there who have developed a good way for their Extension Agents to keep track/keep records of their extension activities after they come from the field?
I am thinking that if there is a program that somebody has put together—that can be loaded to a tablet or other type of hand-held devices—that can be used to collect/store activity reports. Can you find out from our Extension Directors what kind of system they are using. Let me know if you have some recommendations.
Thank you and take care.
Singeru
