My mask protects you; your mask protects me. We’ve controlled infectious diseases without vaccines for thousands of years. Wearing our masks means we can have a functioning economy and concurrently save thousands of lives.

All UA employees, students and visitors must wear a face covering inside all UA buildings, unless alone in a single occupancy office, and in UA outdoor spaces where continuous physical distancing of at least six feet is difficult or impossible to maintain.

Subject: Re: Test Smart info/talking points

Dear deans,

Please see important information below about our Test All Test Smart program, within which we will start to invite participants for random testing starting next week. Please share this to your H/C/Ds, and ask that they share to their employees, asap.

If questions come up to you, please do send them back to Jane Hunter (copied herein) and me, so that we can sort out issues swiftly as they arise!

With regards,

Liesl

Random testing to begin soon – your voluntary participation is encouraged!

Starting next week (Oct 5), randomly selected employees and off-campus students who visit the Tucson campus will have the opportunity to participate in the University’s voluntary Test Smart program. The Test Smart program provides random COVID-19 testing for employees and students. This random sampling is a critical component of the university’s Test Trace Treat strategy and will help determine prevalence on campus.

Test Smart
Up to 45% of COVID-19 cases may be asymptomatic, making detection and management of the disease more challenging. Our Test All Test Smart (TATS) program makes testing available to those with exposure concerns, while also systematically testing randomly selected employees and students to provide an estimate of the number of new infections per week.

TATS data helps inform our campus mitigation activities and the campus reentry process, leading to a safer campus and community for all of us.

Although Test Smart random testing is voluntary, employees and students are encouraged to participate. The testing team has worked hard to ensure the process is convenient and fast (about 10 minutes).

Watch the Test All Test Smart<https://provost.arizona.edu/content/campus-webinars> webinar or view presentation materials.

How Test Smart works:

· Test Smart testing for employees and off-campus students who visit the Tucson campus a minimum of one time per week is voluntary.

· Employee testing (PCR NP) begins on Monday, October 5.

· Off-campus student testing (rapid response antigen) begins on Monday, October 12.

· Each week, randomly selected employees and students will receive an email invitation with instructions and a testing registration link.

· It is possible to be selected more than once.

· Anyone who tests positive will be given direction on how to proceed.

Thank you for continuing to do your part in keeping our campus community safe.

Test SMART – points of interest

· Up to 40-45% of COVID-19 infections are asymptomatic. Randomly testing students and employees helps provide an estimate of the number of new infections per week.

· Test Smart employee testing starts October 5. Off-campus student testing starts October 12.

· This random, voluntary Test Smart testing is by email invitation only.

· If you have visited the Tucson campus and receive an email invitation to participate in Test Smart testing, please consider registering.

· Test Smart for employees is the “gold standard” PCR NP. For students it’s the rapid response antigen test.

· Employees have the option to register for an antibody test at the same time as their PCR test. Students can get an antibody test any time by registering through the statewide program.

· If you are a supervisor, please provide your staff flexibility to participate in Test Smart testing if they are selected.

· The testing team has worked hard to ensure the testing process is convenient, fast (about 10 minutes) and easy.

· Participating in Test Smart is a way to contribute to the data-driven decision-making that impacts our university and community (and can keep you safe)

· Together with contact tracing and estimates of positivity in symptomatic employees and students, these prevalence estimates can provide timely information to help in decision making about re-entry criteria and to keep our community safe.

NOTE:
Employees and students currently experiencing COVID-19 symptoms<https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html> should stay isolated, self-quarantine<https://covid19.arizona.edu/self-quarantine> and call to make an appointment with Campus Health Services<https://health.arizona.edu/> or healthcare provider.
