Everyone, please see the email below. I have confirmed that this means discussion at Unit Meetings and does not "discount that one or two individual faculty could have had one-on-one conversations with their Unit Heads."

Shane

Subject: Aligning workloads with Furlough/Flex Time Requirements

Dear Dean Burgess,

The Faculty Council met on Thurs 15 October and one of the topics discussed was faculty concerns about impacted workloads during 2020.

At HODs and EC meetings you have asked Units Heads to have conversations with Faculty about how they can reduce their workload expectations in line with reduced work time due to furlough and flex time. As of Thursday 15 October no Faculty Council Representatives present at the meeting were able to report that this had occurred.

Over the next few months the Faculty Council will be working to produce best practice guidelines to ensure a fair, equitable and streamlined APR process. While we expect that this will alleviate some concerns in the near future, we request that Unit Heads act immediately to discuss with their Faculty mechanisms for reduced workloads commensurate with reduced work time.

Regards,
Fiona McCarthy
on behalf of the CALS Faculty Council
