Hello County Extension Directors:

Since starting in June, I am impressed to see the great work and research that the Extension team conducts.  As the Associate Area Agent for Ag STEM, I look forward to sharing this with teachers and students throughout Arizona and continuing the incredible work my predecessors, Monica Pastor and Brandon Moak, have put into place.

As an educator for the past 24 years and as a parent, I realize our future lies in our children.  Nowadays, more than ever, our youth have become disconnected from agriculture and lack the understanding of its importance. Growing up in a ranch and farming family, I have learned sacrifice, determination, perseverance and most importantly, an appreciation for our food, fiber, and the network of hands and minds that have helped advance agriculture.

industry and commerce are its branches and leaves.
If the root suffers, the leaves fall, the branches break, and the tree dies.” – Illinois Farmers’ Institute 1912

Not very optimistic or uplifting words, but rather they explain how pertinent and imperative agricultural literacy has always been to our society. This is why I am excited to help educate Arizona’s teachers about agriculture and how vital STEM is to its growth to meet the demands of society.

Dr. Paul Brown is beginning work on arranging a meeting for all Extension employees who work in STEM education – more details will follow.  Until then, if I can be of help, please give me a call or send me an email to share what you are doing in your county, and we will see how I can help promote and support your Ag STEM/Literacy programs in your county.
