Hello Agvisors,
I want to share the complete email from Orientation with you all. I will be closely monitoring all of this and sending you all IMs as we have students get added to the sessions today.
As we move forward, I will also be monitoring the Late Registration Orientation students. We have Next Steps Center updated to have the students directly watch the recorded Academic Unit Meeting and then scheduling individual appointments with each of you.
In previous years we have only had about 2 - 5 students across the college who need to complete the Late Registration Orientation. Due to the implementation of Arizona Arrival, I am not sure what our numbers will look like. We will be ready to support our students who are choosing to come to the University of Arizona and getting them enrolled in courses they need to the best of our ability.
If you have any questions, please email me at ssvalle at arizona.edu.
Bear Down!
Serena

Subject: [oac] Orientation - Late Admits/Commits
Hello everyone,
Tis the season of students who are just now making their decision to attend the University of Arizona. What are their next steps? Any student who has either been recently admitted or has decided to attend, will need to log into their Next Steps Center and complete all their required items. When speaking to a student, remind them to sign up for their orientation session and then immediately start interacting with their placement items. This is very, very important as no placement will equal the student not being able to sign up for a course this semester.
The process for orientation has changed a bit. All students who sign up at this this time will only see one option which is listed as Late Registration Orientation as our last remaining sessions are no longer available for registrations. I monitor this specific session to see who has registered daily, every half hour. Once a student is in the session, I will be doing the following.
* Transfer students, Will immediately be moved from the Late Registration Orientation to our Friday August 16, 2024, Transfer Orientation session. I will then email the student with specific instructions and information about Friday’s session and to complete their Arizona Arrival portal and to interact with the placement items to report any transfer credit they may have. I will be doing this until 2pm today!
* After the 2pm deadline, students will then see specific instructions on their Next Steps Center Orientation tile as to what they need to do to meet with an advisor to register for classes. We would like you all to encourage the student to complete their Arizona Arrival portal. I will also send an email reminder to the student about their Next Steps, Arizona Arrival, importance of their placement and to make an appointment with an advisor.
* First-Year students will immediately be moved from the Late Registration Orientation to our Monday August 19, 2024, New Student Orientation session. I will then email the student with specific instructions and information about Monday’s session and to complete their Arizona Arrival portal and to interact and/or take the placement items to report any dual enrollment, AP, IB, CLEP credit they may have. I will be doing this until 2pm Friday August 16th!
* After the Friday August 16th 2pm deadline, students will then see specific instructions on their Next Steps Center Orientation tile as to what they need to do to meet with an advisor to register for classes. We would like you all to encourage the student to complete their Arizona Arrival portal. I will also send an email reminder to the student about their Next Steps, Arizona Arrival, importance of their placement and to make an appointment with an advisor.
As a reminder, if you speak to a student who will no longer be attending the university, please ask them to officially cancel their admission via their Next Steps Center. They can find the cancellation link in their Path to Enrollment tile, in the Secure your Spot item. They will see No longer attending? and they will just click on Cancel Admission. If the student is registered for classes, they should first drop those courses and then cancel the admission. If the student is in Math 100 or Math 196, they will need to contact Schedule for Success to help them drop that course. The student can email them at scheduleforsuccess at arizona.edu<mailto:scheduleforsuccess at arizona.edu> to have the course dropped.
Should anyone have any additional questions or concerns, feel free to let me know.
