Greetings Agvisors:

Happy Monday, hope this email finds you all well. We are at our last group orientation session - welcoming close to 850 new students within 29 sessions!

On a separate note, below is a message sent on behalf of Writing Program regarding shortage of courses in ENGL101 and 101A. A couple of weeks ago we received similar message regarding Math100. If any of us learn anything new regarding these subjects not posted to UPAC listserv please share on this listserv to keep each other informed.

Preschedules for the 8/19 session are uploaded in Box: CALES 2244 First Year Orientations - Preschedules<https://arizona.box.com/s/s3l8o1285npy1hr2anthdj5vjwtol9cd> - Aug 19 preschedules.pdf.
Quick overview of preschedules:

  * 7 of 9 students are currently enrolled in less than 12 units (highlighted in yellow)
  *   Only 1 student is in ENGL (ENGL106 only; non in 101/101A);
  * 5 are enrolled in MATH (MATH196B only; non in any other level at this time)

We'll continue to remind and encourage students to take math assessment (ALEKS) at the academic unit meeting presentation. Schedule change requests may be entered here<https://arizona.box.com/s/4pxu9wt4dxbedqhqwl8xlespq0k657os> through 10am. If you list a class offered through your respective unit that is currently closed but have permission to overenroll, please indicate that on the sheet - thanks. Students can also make schedule modifications after their 1:1 advising appointment.

Reach out if you have any questions via Teams chat (Agvisors or direct message) or email CALES-advising at teams.arizona.edu<mailto:CALES-advising at teams.arizona.edu> After the 8/19 session students will be referred to Late Registration as titled in the Next Steps Center portal (screenshot below). Many thanks team for all you continue to do!

Subject: [UPAC] Shortage of Courses/Seats in Foundations Writing
Importance: High

Sent on behalf of Shelley Rodrigo, Senior Director, Writing Program
Dear Advisors,

The Foundations Writing Program is near capacity with our Fall '24 ENGL101A/101 seats.

We will be encouraging students without a seat to keep looking through the end of the student add/drop period (Mon. 9/2), and if they do not enroll in a writing course, they will need to wait until the Spring '25 term. To help them build a full Fall '24 schedule, we will suggest they reach out to academic advisors for support to add a course, if they do not find a writing course.

There are seats available in ENGL106 and ENGL107 as of Sunday, 8/18.

We apologize for the disruption to fall scheduling and any inconvenience this may cause you and the students with whom you work.

Sincerely,
Shelley Rodrigo
Senior Director, Writing Program
Department of English
