Subject: [oac] August Orientations & Late Registration session
Hello Everyone,
Happy Wednesday! There are only two formal orientation sessions left and then the real party begins in the form of Destination Arizona and the start of the semester on August 21, 2023. Below are some updates in case you all have or get questions, etc. especially regarding Late admitted students for the Fall term. Apologies for the long email.
1. As of today August 9, 2023, students are no longer able to register themselves for any of the formal orientation sessions that are left which are the August 10 – 11 combined Global Transfer and August 14 -15 combined Global First-Year sessions.
1. Students will be prompted to sign up for our Late Registration/Orientation session. This is a non-formal self-paced session where the student will need to complete the items located in their Late Registration tile. Here<https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Nu5jag70st2WwRSskEapAh-_T9cYkkzzv0rZRWL1ICo/edit?usp=sharing> you can find a walk-through of what is in the tile and what the student needs to do. Do not share this with the student it is for staff only.
* If a student reaches out to ask what date this session is happening, let them know it is a self-paced process. It is the student’s responsibility to complete all the items and meet with an advisor. The student will see specific information based on the major they are currently admitted/matriculated into.
* Make sure and stress to the student to complete all the red flag items (required) in their Next Steps Center to have a smooth process when it comes to course registration.
1. I will be monitoring the orientation reservation system especially today (8/9) and tomorrow (8/10) for any Transfer students who sign up to offer them the opportunity to attend the Friday August 11th orientation session. I will do the same for any First-Year students for the purpose of pre-scheduling the student for courses. I will stress to any TR and FY student to make sure and interact/complete their placements.
1. I will send out the most updated rosters for these last two sessions for you all to have the most updated list of registered students. Besides the late sign-ups and students who are still being admitted for the Fall 2023 term, many students have also been deferring their admission to either spring 2024 or a future term so they may also drop off your list.
1. I will try my best to remove any applicable Advising holds (FYOR) as well as the RO4 immunization holds prior to the session. Let me know if either of these holds need to be removed if you do not have access to release on your own. As a reminder, send me a Teams message and include the students name and SID.
1. Once again, during the orientation session or follow-up with those students who are registered for any of the sessions if they state they will no longer be attending, remind them to cancel via their Next Steps Center as this is an immediate cancellation. Below are the steps students will need to take to cancel their admission. Feel free to send these to the student via email or relay this verbally while speaking with them.
* You will need to log into your Next Steps Center, proceed to the Path to Enrollment tile and find the Secure your Spot item. You will see No longer attending? and then click on Cancel Admission.
Once you have completed your cancellation, approximately 2 days after submitting your cancellation you will need to log into your UAccess Student Center (uaccess.arizona.edu), to make sure you do not have an outstanding balance. I recommend you take these steps to avoid any miscommunication or issue with the university regarding any monies you may owe.
1. Any student who has questions about the Late Registration session, Enrollment or orientation fees or general questions, feel free to have them email us at orientation at arizona.edu<mailto:orientation at arizona.edu>. If a student has questions about Destination Arizona have them email us at destination at arizona.edu<mailto:destination at arizona.edu>.
If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me directly via Microsoft Teams or via email. We appreciate all your hard work and dedication during this summer to bring in all these amazing students.
