[Agvisors] ADVIP error: English Composition & AP credit

Sending this info and scenario to the group for your review.

I came across a student with both AP English Lit & Composition credit and UA ENGL 101 enrollment.  The student opted to take ENGL 101 & 102 and save the AP credit for a general education requirement, as it also satisfies Tier 2 Humanities.  The advisement report pulls the AP credit into the English Composition foundation requirement and allows ENGL 101 credit to both satisfy the English Composition degree requirement.  This is not permitted, of course, and if it is not caught while reading the ADVIP, a student would believe they completed both 1st & 2nd English Composition degree requirement.  See the image below, taken from the student's ADVIP, the degree requirement shows satisfied.  I have since entered the exception to exclude the AP (1CAP) credit from this area and moved it to T2 Humanities, per AP credit policy.

I have contacted Erin Whittig in UA Writing Program and made her aware of this ADVIP error, and Erin is now working with UITS Analytics team for a solution.  I wanted to share this with the group, because as I think back to when I was a new advisor, and if I saw this ADVIP I might have assumed the ADVIP was correct and perhaps moved past this, and the student wouldn't have been informed they needed ENGL 102.  Per Erin, she will alert Roxie Catts and an official notice will be sent out to the UPAC listserv.  Until they create an ADVIP fix to stop this from happening in the future, please keep an eye out for ENGL AP credit and how it is satisfying degree requirements in the ADVIP.
