[Agvisors] Agvisors February 20 meeting 11am-1pm and Information request

Greetings Agvisors,

Look forward to the February Agvisors meeting on Tuesday the 20th from 11am-1pm at the McKale Center Lohse Room (3rd floor).  Lunch will be available at 11am. Many are attending the 10am CALS Recruitment meeting at the same location so moving forward we will aim to coordinate the meetings at the same location.  As a reference, there were quite a few inquiries on the 'contact an advisor' link from the lead generation sites sent earlier this week.  Clarification will be provided at both meetings (in case you do not or may not attend the recruitment meeting).

Agvisors Meeting:
You may be wondering why at McKale?  Since last Fall the CATS Academic Athletic Director attempted to meet with CALS advisors to learn more about our majors, minors and certificates; along with student processes. The interest is mutual for awareness and to best assist and support students.  They have asked if we can present them with information about the disciplines we offer.  All of you will have the opportunity to highlight your majors/minors/certificates (if applicable) with the 8 CATTS Academic Specialists that will join us at the meeting. You are encouraged to take a handout with information on your majors, minors and anything else you would like to share.  Attached is a document that will also be shared with them - CALS major descriptions and general FAQ information. Please refer to your respective major(s) to assure they are accurate. Please respond to Maria Bueno (mbueno at email.arizona.edu<mailto:mbueno at email.arizona.edu>) or myself with edits or confirmation that the information is accurate. Thanks!

CATS Academic Counselors will be presenting on support services offered to the students, eligibility requirements, suggestions on enhancing collaborations between advisors and counselors (this is mutual), and other information they have presented to other campus advisors that may be beneficial for us to know. A sample of what a day is like for a student athlete will also be shared. In particular when they have a game/match and the day after. If you have other suggestions on what they can cover let me know.

Save the date on the 2/22 Agvisors Brown Bag from 12-1pm: New Student Orientation details

Information Request:
Please refer to the following items and send to Maria Bueno at your convenience but no later than Friday February 23, 2018.  We are collecting this information for multiple purposes which includes new student orientation and request from Dean Burgess.

1.      Major checklists in reference to all your respective plans listed on the excel sheet - CALS Plans-Majors_Minors_UGDCertificates

2.      Four year graduation plans (your ideal schedule and if you have alternate ones based on math placement sent those as well)

3.      Confirm that the CALS Courses and descriptions within on the excel sheet is correct - CALS Courses as of 2-14-18.  If any course prefixes or course information offered in your respective units are missing or incorrect please let Maria know.  As a side, a handout with CALS general education classes will be created to share with students at orientation as a good method to promote and make students aware of CALS diversity.

4.      Materials you give new freshmen that start in your majors. This is mainly for the out of state orientations. Colleges have to submit out of state materials by 3/1/18.  If you can send 2 per major it would be greatly appreciated.  Majors that have more than two students enrolled, Maria or I will reach out to you to collect additional information. Thanks in advance!
