[Agvisors] CALS Ambassadors: "Adopt" a Major

Hello Advisors: You may know that I'm the new advisor for the CALS Ambassador program. One goal I have for the program is for the membership to be a true representation of all CALS majors; I'm looking toward our 2018 member recruitment cycle to reach that goal. Until that time, I asked all 19 members - 7 of them being new to the program just this semester (1-7 on the list below) - to "adopt" a CALS major, or two, that is not their declared major. The thinking behind this is that Ambassadors will proactively learn about all CALS majors from the perspective of a prospective student. They'll accomplish this by completing any/all major info you already have available (e.g. online training, website search, etc), meeting with you, talking with your department faculty, and connecting to your undergraduate students. I see this as an ongoing learning process, not a one-time effort.

I've asked the Ambassadors to accomplish a few tasks over the next several weeks:

* attend tomorrow's Meet your Major Fair and introduce themselves to CALS academic advisors

* select one (or more) CALS majors that they will "adopt"

* complete online trainings/major info sessions

* meet with you (after priority registration, of course!)

* talk with faculty and students

* present on their "adopted" major(s) at the CALS Ambassador weekly meetings

* update all Ambassadors on interesting news, internships, opportunities, etc in their "adopted" major

If you could send me info about your majors (the type of info you would send to a prospective student) that would be incredibly helpful! Also, once they select their "adopted" majors, I'm hoping you'll consider adding those members to your department email lists. I'll share this "adopt a major" approach with the HODs as well.
