Greetings Agvisors:
Attached is information regarding the second language "placement" exam
codes. Note these are for the placement exam students take on-line. It is
just a placement exam that informs them what level they are eligible to
enroll in. This does not give them proficiency.
Placement and proficiency are two different things. Students take a
placement test to know what the next course in their language sequence is.
If they want to satisfy the requirement they must take a proficiency exam
(or the CLEP if it is offered in their particular language). The biggest
reason there is a placement test and a proficiency test is that students
take the placement test on their own, which is not proctored. The
proficiency exam is given on campus and is proctored, which is why that can
be used to satisfy the requirement.
Advisors can access placement and proficiency levels on UAccess Student
Center. To get there go to: Main Menu - Records and Enrollment - Transfer
Credit Evaluation - Academic Test Summary
Below is information students are given who want to take a test instead of a
class to satisfy their language requirement (thanks Kristen Geary!):
I wanted to give you information on how to satisfy your language
requirement; you can either take the UA's proficiency exam (you won't get
any credit) or the CLEP test (you will earn credit).
If you are interested in taking the {Spanish/French/Russian/German/Latin}
proficiency exam you can follow these steps:
*Visit <http://w3.coh.arizona.edu/advising/>
http://w3.coh.arizona.edu/advising/
*Select "Language Placement Exam Appointment"
*Be sure to read the instructions carefully for time and location
information.
*Questions? <mailto:cohadv at email.arizona.edu> cohadv at email.arizona.edu
If you're interested in taking the {Spanish/French/German} CLEP test you can
follow these steps:
*Visit <http://www.testing.arizona.edu> www.testing.arizona.edu
*Select "CLEP" under the Tests heading
*Follow instructions on registering for the test
If you have additional questions regarding this please let Kristen or myself
know.
Best,
Nancy
