Re:         FERPA Information on the Registrar's Website

The Registrar's Office has updated the web pages relating to information
about the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).  The primary
URL is http://www.registrar.arizona.edu/ferpa/ferpa-compliance.  Please
check your websites for any references to FERPA and make sure that they are
pointing to the new URL.  

There are now four primary sections.  The first section provides the basic
information that everyone needs to understand.  The other sections provide
specific information for students, parents and instructors/staff.   

All UA staff and instructors should take notice of a new category called
limited directory information.  There are three items in this category that
may be released, but only in very specific situations.  Those items are:

*	Student employment information (title, pay rate, dates of
employment) - Released by Human Resources to verify employment for students
as wells as employees (active and former) to potential employers, landlords,
and companies that offer credit instruments (stores, banks, mortgage
lenders). 
*	Date of birth* - Date of birth is only released to official agencies
as required for matching student records. 
*	Student photo - Will only be utilized and/or released to University
faculty and staff for attendance, testing, academic advising and
identification in health and safety situations 

(Student photos have recently been added to UAccess Student and are viewable
through the Instructor Center Class Roster.)

Other new additions include screenshots that show students how to restrict
their information using UAccess Self-Service,
