Dear Agvisors:

 

Thanks again for meeting with Kathy Godwin and me yesterday to discuss your
participation in the Degree Tracker launch slated for January 2011.  We
appreciated your questions and the critical discussion about the
functionality of this product in terms of your needs and the students'
needs.  I'm attaching handouts and PowerPoint from yesterday's presentation
in addition to a new file, "Blank Degree Tracker Template."  This is the
form you will use to fill in your four-year degree plans (one for each
option if this applies to your major) and the other variables we need to
construct the final product.

 

As a reminder, you may place an X in the columns "Checkpoint,"  for those
courses you identified as checkpoint courses.  In the notes section, please
explain what the criteria are for making this a checkpoint course, i.e.,
'grade of C or better,' and/or 'completed in this term' or both.  You are
empowered to decide criteria; if you want a "B or better" to be the measure,
that is fine.  Also, please limit the number of courses designated as
Checkpoint to no more than 8.  If you choose too many, you will find that
your reports of students will grow to astronomical proportions and that is
not the point of this project.  We want to identify students who are
struggling but we do not want to create more work for you in doing so.

 

In the pre-requirement and co-requirement columns, please list the courses
that are the pre-requirement and/or co-requirement.  As a reminder,
pre-requirements are similar to pre-requisites, but you can also tell us of
the 'soft' pre-requisites and suggested courses for students will follow
that.  For co-sequencing, just place an X in the box if it applies.

 

Please do not worry about the multiple math placements for now.  We only
need a template for each option and the 'ideal' math placement schedule.
Kathy and I are working with the team to sequence this as Bill Matter and
Elaine Marchello recommended, as we do not create any more extra work for
you.

 

I'm requesting that these be submitted by mid-July (soft deadline) and by
end of July (hard deadline) for those who have multiple options and
complicated pre- and co-requisites, etc.  You may use the other hand-out as
a guide as you fill this out and do not hesitate to call me (621-9371) or
Kathy (621-5757) with questions.  

 

Once you've completed the form, please send it to Kathy Godwin at
kgodwin at email.arizona.edu.
