Tuesday Morning Notes
August 16, 2011
FOCUS ON STAFF:
Congratulations go to Teresa Noon (Program Coordinator, Operation: Military
Kids) who was selected as a participant in the American Express Leadership
Academy sponsored in collaboration with the Corporation for National and
Community Service (CNCS) and the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL). The
academy will take place November 14-18 in Washington, DC. Teresa was
recognized as an emerging leader focused on the CNCS strategic goals of
serving veterans and military families.
Congratulations also go to Mary Conner who was promoted to Administrative
Associate in the Maricopa County office. Mary has worked for the office for
twenty years and replaces Darlene Lyman who retired as the Office Supervisor
after 23 years in various administrative positions with the office.
FOCUS ON PROGRAMS:
Last March, the Climate, Natural Resources and Sustainability Signature
Program Team was awarded a grant from the UA Green Fund Committee to
supplement funding for four county "Externship" opportunities for UA
students this summer. This Externship program is intended to provide
undergraduate students with a work experience addressing community-scale
sustainability projects in several rural communities throughout Arizona.
The four counties and projects are: Rainwater Harvesting Project in Safford
(Graham County - Bill Brandau); Community Gardens Project in Parker (La Paz
- Linda Masters); Summer Institute for Teachers on Sustainability Curriculum
in Sierra Vista (Cochise - Darcy Tessman); and Farmers' Market Start Up
Project in Globe (Gila - Chris Jones). Congratulations to Bill Brandau for
a feature article in August 15 edition of the Eastern Arizona Courier.
PROGRAM & PROCEDURAL MANUAL - DRUPAL STYLE:
>From a three-ring binder in the 80s to an online version in the 90s, the
Program and Procedural Manual
<http://extension.arizona.edu/acebooks/content/program-and-procedural-manual
> has evolved over time. For those of you new to our system, the manual
covers information that ranges from Organization to Operations and Civil
Rights to Program areas - and much more. The latest version has now been
converted to a "Books" component in Drupal and after conversion and editing
over the past months, is now ready for use. The format looks different but
the content and categories are similar to the original online version.
Editing and link updates will continue, but you can begin referencing the
Program
<http://extension.arizona.edu/acebooks/content/program-and-procedural-manual
> & Procedural Manual in its new format. Also, as with any change from one
format to another, there are "glitches." So, if you find a bad link or any
other errors, contact Steven Crofts <mailto:scrofts at cals.arizona.edu>
(520.621.7145).

Cooperative Extension Facebook Contest! During the month of August we're
holding the 2011 Flower Contest. Take a look at our
<http://www.facebook.com/ArizonaCooperativeExtension> Facebook page or the
