The temperatures are already heating up, grass is greening up, and the winter was “wet” in the desert so what will the grubs do this year? Improve your knowledge about the masked chafer beetle flights and their egg laying to determine when emerging larvae will be susceptible, if insecticide applications will be necessary. Flights can be monitored with blacklight traps during the late spring when adults emerge and begin to seek mates. There will be several education events coming up:

** Save May 11, Thursday morning, on your calendar for the Annual Turfgrass Field Day at a new location at the University of Arizona Rincon Vista Sports Fields in Tucson.  Details will be coming soon.

** The Annual Spring Turfgrass Seminar will be a “Fertilizer & Pesticide Applications Workshop: Math Made Easy and Equipment Calibration” on Wednesday morning, April 26 in Phoenix and CEU’s have been applied for pesticide licenses. Details and registration information are at: http://turf.arizona.edu

** For individuals needing a pesticide applicators license, there will be a 3-day review of the “National Pesticide Applicator Core Manual” on April 17, 21, and 28 in Phoenix.  Extra time will be devoted to each chapter of the Core Manual to enable the individual to absorb the important pesticide information and concepts.  The AZ Department of Agriculture will administer the exam on the afternoon of April 28.  Topics covered each day and registration information are at: http://turf.arizona.edu

** A “Stop Pests in Housing Workshop” will be all day on May 16 in Phoenix at the UA Maricopa County Cooperative Extension office.
