[UAS] DJI ban

Hello Jeff and everyone else,

Likewise, thanks to Chris and David for making yesterday possible, it was
fun and we should think of expanding this.
Here are the pieces of info that I can share now:
1. There is no official 'federally mandated' ban just yet
2. There are federal agencies who internally opted for a ban on DJI, on a
discretionary basis of the person who oversees their UAS work, and that
affects theirs and their partners' work. To what extent I do not know yet
3. The ban (in place or the one coming if adopted) is still very unclear as
it may mean lots of things (ban on the purchase/use going forward, ban of
everything DJI old and new, or other things)
4. So far this looks like it will be limited to work funded with or related
to federal money. If not federally funded you may get away with it, but I
surmise universities, etc may adopt a similar stricter band (feds look
into compliance/that when awarding money)
5. The UofA being proactive (chain of command all the way to the Provost -
see below - I only kept the key sentence ) tried to block the purchase of a
DJI drone recently. The purchase proceeded since then with an exception

6. What will happen to our assets I do not know? And I believe this is our
wiggle room.

Cheers
