Afternoon all,
Thanks for checking out our monthly email update regarding research on range riders for the CIG grant from NRCS – Conservation on Workinglands (aka. the CoW-CIG). We hope you all are having a great start to the new year.
We have been busy uploading, organizing, and cleaning data from last season. A massive thank you to all the operations that provided data last year. We are working on data now! We are now ready to hire 1-2 technicians for our upcoming field season. If you know anyone who you think would be a good fit, please forward them this email with the technician advertisement below.
Next steps:
- We are hiring technicians! Please see the advertisement below.
- Our goal is to get all producers their game camera photos by the end of February. Thank you all for your patience - we have added another layer of analysis to the photos to improve our understanding of cattle behavioral responses to predator-induced stress which, although exciting, also means it takes us MUCH longer to code each photo. If anyone would like their photos sooner, please reach out to me and I can make that happen. However, be forewarned – you will get all photos, not just the photos of animals and people, but also a lot of photos of grass blowing in the wind!
- I will be reaching out to participating producers starting in February/March to start setting up for the coming season. If you would like to speak with me sooner, please call anytime.
- Cattle hair sample analysis is underway at the Smithsonian!
- There is still some limited space to bring on additional producer partners to our study. If you know a producer you think may be interested in partnering on our study, please let us know!
Please feel free to forward this email and tell anyone to email Rae (rae.nickerson at usu.edu) or Julie (julie.young at usu.edu) if they want to be added to receive the emails directly. Please also send an email if you want to be removed.
If anyone has any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask (Rae: 847-951-6477 or Julie: 406-274-2290).
Thank you all for your continued interest and effort on this project.
Looking forward to seeing many of you soon,
Rae
